Restless Legs and Mental Overstimulation After a Late-Night Deal

a big black alarmclock with 1 am.

After a few weeks of relatively peaceful nights, last night hit me like a freight train—classic insomnia style. And I think I know exactly what triggered it…

My Love-Hate Relationship With Marktplaats

I’m obsessed with Marktplaats—the Dutch version of Craigslist—where people sell second-hand stuff. I browse it daily, especially the categories that spark my curiosity: computer parts, coffee machines, gadgets. Sometimes I’m looking for an upgrade, but more often I’m hunting for a bargain I can flip for profit. I guess there’s a little trader in me… and that’s where the trouble started last night.

The Deal That Kept Me Awake

Whenever I come across a “top deal,” I get completely hyped. I rush to secure the item, arrange a pickup ASAP, and my brain goes into overdrive. Just seeing the deal already sets off a wave of adrenaline. And once the purchase is confirmed, the thoughts don’t stop.
What if there are more deals I’m missing?
Is the seller legit?
What if someone else offers more before I can pick it up?

Yesterday’s deal was for a full PC set: motherboard, CPU, RAM, and SSD. The price was crazy low. I suspect the seller—a dad—was listing it on behalf of his son and had no clue about its actual value. After a brief chat, we closed the deal. A true bargain!

From Movie Night to Mania

I sealed the deal late at night while watching a movie with my girlfriend. She went to bed, but I wasn’t tired. Nope—I was buzzing.
I could already visualize the whole project: I’d only need a few more parts to build a beast of a PC, sell it again, and make a sweet profit.
So what did I do? I dove straight back into Marktplaats to hunt for a PSU, GPU, and a sleek PC case.

This platform lists thousands of new computer parts every day. Mix that with my perfectionism, trading drive, and obsessive mind… and boom—mental chaos.

The Endless Search

One listing was too old. Another was overpriced. A third had a sketchy seller or was too far away.
I scrolled and filtered for hours.
At some point—around 1:30 AM—I told myself I had to stop. I have a job, a daily routine I’ve worked hard to build, and I didn’t want to ruin it.

So, lights off. Time for bed.

My Night in a Nutshell (Spoiler: It Was Hell)

Here’s what happened instead:

  • Went to bed at 1:30 AM
  • Got up at least 6 times
  • Smoked way too many cigarettes
  • Drank 2 coffees
  • Ate twice
  • Went to the toilet 4 times
  • Finally passed out around 6:00 AM

It was awful. My mind was racing the moment I laid down.
After about 45 minutes, my legs started to feel restless. It got worse and worse—eventually turning into full-blown jolts. My body was wired, my brain was on fire, like I had just invented something revolutionary and needed to work it all out right now.

From Hype to Helplessness

The excitement slowly morphed into frustration. I’d had four good weeks—mild nights, a bit of calm.
And now? All wrecked because of a “top deal”?

A Trigger Worth Noting

It makes me wonder:
To what extent is my mental state triggering my restless legs?
Is it the racing thoughts keeping me awake, giving my legs a window to start acting up?
Or is it a chemical imbalance—some neurotransmitter overload—that sets everything off and makes my legs go crazy?

Either way, this is another piece of the puzzle I’m adding to my journey.
